Sea Horses

I just found this interesting review of a book about sea horses. If you went on the MEMRO excursion, you will recall seeing the sea horses exhibit at the Monterrey Bay aquarium.

Golf in the Bay Area

If you play golf, this is one of the best places to play at a reasonable price.
There are many municipal golf courses in the area. The two closest ones are the Palo Alto Golf Course and the Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View (the Stanford course is closer, but it's a bit expensive). If you are in the area after the meeting (during the week of June 30th) and want to play golf, get in touch with me and I can make arrangements.

screenshots with 500dpi

Dear people from MEMRO2009,

I got a small issue concerning screenshot from a software. Default resolution for screenshot is either 72dpi (or 96dpi). Apparently, Hearing Research - Elsevier wants a 500dpi (I am only working with black and white pictures).

I wanted to share a solution for those who are facing the same challenge. Hopefully, in your imaging software (Adobe Photoshop CSxxx, or others), you will be able to see the size of your picture and modify it. There is an option (at least in Adobe Photoshop) to modify the resolution (pixels/inch). If you have a 72dpi or 96dpi, you can multiply this number by ten without loosing too much information (source from internet: www.justskins.com/forums/screen-shots-to-hi-res-image-138374.html).

At the bottom of the same window, there is a drop-down menu telling you different type of interpolations. I used Nearest Neighbor (preserve hard edges). Then, the image will appear huge both in the format but also as a file. When saving to TIFF, remember to use the LZW compression mode to highly compress the picture (option usually available when saving the picture with the TIFF format).

I hope this will be useful for some of you. If there are any mistakes (I am sure there will be some), please let me know.

I am looking forward to meet you.

Best regards,

Olivier Cros.
